It’s official – another Phalen added to the family!

Tony and Danna Phalen

Tony and Danna Phalen

On April 3rd of 2011, Danna and I were married in the great state of Texas. Because of some family health issues, we had to change the venue at the last moment (from here in SoCal). Because we don’t live in Texas, we had to show up a week ahead of time to get the marriage license. We then stayed an extra week for a big ol’ Texas-style reception at the local church. This allows all her friends and relatives that she hasn’t seen in some time to come and socialize with us.

My new project – The Team Associated SC10 4×4 with all the fixin’s

Team Associated SC10 4x4

Team Associated SC10 4x4

Just picked up Team Associated’s new 4wd Short Course truck, the SC10 4×4. While I did the review on this super truck last month, it was with one of the A-Team’s demo models…they didn’t have any available for us to take and build. Not only did I get the truck (in kit form), but I also picked up a Reedy LiPo pack, LRP SXX TC Spec V2 ESC, a LRP 7.5T 540 brushless motor and a LRP 4.5T 550 Short Course brushless motor. Thankfully I had a spare receiver lying around so I could install my Airtronics M11x into it! Body will be painted tomorrow (hopefully) and I’ll be ready to hit the track soon after!

My New Toy – The Apple iPhone4

Apple iPhone4 for Verizon

Apple iPhone4 for Verizon

Since I first heard about the iPhone, I’ve pretty much wanted one. Good ol’ Verzion, however, gave up the chance to acquire it to AT&T. That was a couple years ago. As of February 7th (and quite a few horrible iPhone wannabees later), I have been a proud owner of the iPhone 4. I decided to mention anything about it until I had some time to play with it and really see if it was worth all the hype it’s been given.

I was pretty sure that, after the first full day of use, this was the most bad-ass phone on the market. It’s fast, easy to use and has a T-O-N of apps to make life just a bit easier. I’m not that easy to impress, but I will admit that this phone has changed the way I live. Here are a few of my favorite apps:

HPI Baja 5SC SS Kit – Welcome to the family

HPI Baja 5SC SS Kit

HPI Baja 5SC SS Kit

I made a trip to HPI today to pick up some parts for the Baja’s I’m rebuilding for the upcoming season. As I waited in one of the offices for the order to arrive, my bud Collin rolled up with a big ol’ tan box. Inside was…you guessed it…a yet unreleased HPI Baja 5SC SS kit! So, I’ll be spending the next couple of days building this to my racing-specs. I’ll also be running this at the East Coast Baja Nationals later this year.

Duke Nukem Forever a Reality…Really?

Duke Nukem Forever

Duke Nukem Forever

Back in the day (uh, around 1995-ish), my best buddy and I used to log on to our stellar dial-up connection and play Duke Nukem. This game was pretty cool for those times…when you shot opponents they would explode with little bits of Duke-parts flying everywhere. The game even had a map editor, and you could download maps from the internet to play on. It was only available on a PC (there were no console games at that time), so modifying the game code to ‘cheat’ was pretty easy to do.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3

So, found some info on the next installment of Call of Duty. Here’s what I found:

“Infinity Ward’s far from out, but it’s certainly down a number of very important people – including former bosses Jason West and Vince Zampella. Under normal circumstances, that’d mean huffing, puffing, and delaying the game out of 2011 while everyone regroups, but this is Call of Duty we’re talking about. Activision’s precious lifeblood. Its bread and butter. And so, according to a report by the LA Times, the CODependant publisher’s brought in a couple fresh faces to pick up the slack.

Assignment: RC Driver

The magazine industry is a tough cookie right now. Getting readers to pay attention to your rag is pretty difficult…the internet has made this so. I sat down a yesterday and thought hard; what can we do as a magazine to make it more favorable to the internet. This was a hard question, but I was able to jot down about 7 ideas that I think will certainly help. I sent an e-mail over to my boss (in Connecticut) and everyone in the office seemed to really like those ideas! A brainstorming session has been planned for some time in March…I need to fine tune these ideas (and the 4 more I’ve come up with) so that we can get them going asap! Pretty excited about this.

12th Annual OC Circuit Toys 4 Tots Race

2010 OC Circuit Toys 4 Tots Race

2010 OC Circuit Toys 4 Tots Race

Well another year is almost over, and that can only mean one thing…Toys 4 Tots Racing! I went to this years OC Circuit T4T’s race in beautiful Huntington Beach California. Weather was a bit odd this year…overcast and high-60′s one day, sunny and mid-80′s the next. All the car tuning I did on Saturday ended up going out the window on Sunday.

Kobe Bryant and Jimmy Kimmel in a Call of Duty Black Ops Promo Video

Yup, that’s right. Plus, this is one of the best Call of Duty promotional videos I’ve ever seen. Pretty cool.

Oh, 1 more day…

MegaMind the Movie; in 3D

Mega Mind 3D Movie

Mega Mind 3D Movie

Danna and I went and saw the premiere for MegaMind in 3D. Excellent movie, plus we had a chance to use some new-fangled, battery-operated 3D glasses. A little heavy but extremely clear.

The animation was great, characters were fun and a pretty good twist near the middle of the movie. Kind of saw something coming but didn’t really know what. A great flick…go see it.
